This appears to be a nostalgic view at a great American Classic The Automat,We went there every time we took the New York Central over 100 miles to visit NYC.Fond memories are seen in this book indeed.looking forward to reading the entire thing soon.

I was taken back to my childhood growing up along the Hudson River in New Jersey. My grandfather and I would take the bus and head into the city. After seeing a show at Radio City we would find a Horn&Hardart’s and enjoy a treat. As a young child it amazed me how you would put coins in a slot and winding up with something to eat. If you didn’t grow up near the city or in it, you have no idea as to what you missed out on. I now live in Upstate New York and saw one in a museum in Albany. Only myself and another person knew what it was and our reaction to seeing it. Again, both of us where transported back to our childhood.

For me, and I’m sure everyone else who remembers walked through those doors , this is a magical trip back to a treasure of our childhoods. There was nothing else to compare to the experience of eating at a Horn & Hardart.
