Reintroducing the Automat

An update on the Journey to the Automat

June 9, 1902, the first Horn & Hardart Automat opened at 818 Chestnut Street in Philadelphia. 122 years later, we are thrilled to share more details about our vision for the new Horn & Hardart Automat.

Picture This: A Visit to the Automat
You enter the Horn & Hardart Automat and immediately feel embraced by its inviting ambiance.

The atmosphere exudes elegance, yet there's a comforting warmth that welcomes you as soon as you step inside. Your eyes are drawn to the magnificent wall of Automat windows.

As you approach, the array of items displayed behind the glass beckons you to indulge. From breakfast sandwiches to pastries, everything you crave is right there, ready and waiting. With a simple touch of your credit card or phone, you can select and take the item you want.

You turn and see that even the coffee at the Automat offers something unique. Inspired by the ornate dolphin spout facade of the original Horn & Hardart beverage dispenser, you can retrieve your favorite cup of coffee with another simple tap and pour.

Design
We are inspired by the elegance of early 20th-century Horn & Hardart Automats. Our space will blend modern style with the Beaux Arts and Art Deco architectural designs of the original Automats.

Here is an early look at the modern Automat:

Our Automat will create a better experience for those looking for a quick, hassle free meal. With a focus on self-service, the Automat will offer a seamless and satisfying dining experience. The menu will feature breakfast and lunch items, balancing comfort foods and healthier choices, all crafted with quality ingredients and inspired by original H&H recipes.

Thank you for being part of this journey. We look forward to sharing more updates as we continue our efforts to revive Horn & Hardart!
